Hello everyone!
I've been looking now for ages for a hat for my Mary Poppins act and haven't had any luck. basically I need a plain black raffia (or whatever other material: sinamay etc) hat that I then can customise myself. have tried vintage shops, internet, ebay...nothing! Maybe I'm being too fussy about the shape, but has anyone seen anything around I could get? do you know any decently priced milliners that can give me a base?
Thanks Smile
xx

hello honey-the hat that Mary Poppins wears is a classic english straw boater, albeit in black. You can pick them up quite cheaply from ebay or fancy dress shops and then dye it black as they generally come in natural straw colour.
Sometimes in america they call them skimmers aswell.
I`ve seen this on an american site too, but its not an actual copy as it looks to be made of felt!

good luck-i`m sure you find something-when do you need it by?

Thanks for the advice Dorothy, it's good to have a proper name for what I'm looking for (I'm not British).
