Randomly searching the net I came across this site:
How to Make Hats
It's from a 1952 book on Millinery. I haven't tried any of the patterns yet, but thought some of you might be interested

Thank you Miss Lou, what a fantastic site!
If you're looking for supplies Milliner Warehouse sells sells great little bases for fascinators, lovely trimmings and accessories for hat makeing;

If any of you have a go we would love to see your results.

Ooh excellent For now I'm going to have a try with whatever I've got around the house, and if I can get something half decent then I'll get some proper materials _________________ So when you hear this autumn song

so how did you get on? Has anyone been busy making hats from either of these sites?
Particularly fascinators seem to be going for a small fortune. I am sure a cottage industry could be started! _________________ Man in a Hat www.myspace.com/hatterarts

Somebody make me a hat - I've got that dress up party on Monday and have no hat yet *sniffle*
I'd love to try my hand at Millinery. I've often though "bah, I could make a felt hat" but never seem to have the time. I'm going to have a go at a felt pillbox for Monday if i have a spare moment.

Just checked out the link for vintage sewing - is it me that completely stupid or does this make everything sound sooooo complicated!
It seems so much easier when i just do it practically???? |

I love making hats! Felt ones are fairly easy and quick to knock up, made one a couple of nights ago - a mini fascinator only took me about an hour and the green leaves have wire sewed into them so you can move them to any angle you like:
Going to grab some net tomorrow and make a nice blue pill box one for the Slippery Belle tomorrow evening.

I've had a go at a couple of fascinators (one of them is the butterfly one in MIAH's movers and shakers photos, also on my myspace - myspace.com/anwenm), but I've never tried a hat. A good friend of mine is a milliner so I shall have to have a go at one of the ones on the website & give her a call when I (inevitably) get stuck! _________________ I'd rather regret what I've done than wonder what might have been |

Not sure i just tend to see ones i like, look at them carefully, remember how they've been made and just recreate it. I did study textiles for a couple of years and made a hat as my final exam piece, it was a huge sunflower where the leaves were about a foot long each which you could move, god knows what happened to thing.
I'm sure if you hunt on the net for long enough you'll find some info.
