The other half of a burlesque performer?!Hello boys and girls  I would like to open a discussion about being the other half of a burlesque performer.
As the other half, how do you feel?
What do you like/ dislike about it?
What really pisses you off or amuses you?
And if your partners don't log onto these forums (like mine) can you pass a 'statement' or a quote?
I've seen that at TeaseoRama they're having a boyfriends' panel, I think we should have one in the UK!
I was performing at a gig recently where there were 2 other boyfriends besides mine and they really liked bonding.

chris really helped me become a better performer!
im very grateful to him, cos he knows alot about theatre.
i love meeting performer's other halves.

Oh no I said it wrong: I didn't mean a panel of judges, no no! (English is not my first language) I meant they have a discussion/ workshop of all the boyfriends. My boyfriend is really glad to go!
He's helped me a lot too, and I'm really grateful

I used to when I was playing. Now I go to the Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Bentley, and Supra IV sites to get my jollies.
Not that I can afford any of them

My fella is really supportive, he makes my sound tracks, voice over, tells me if my routines are not working , films them, tells me if my costume need changing . Lots really but he does not come out and watch me perform as much anymore as I think he has reached saturation point with it all. For him the acts have to have some kind of skill, story or twist or he finds it boring.
Oh motorbikes and cars I love both, I grew up on a car garage so was surrounded with oil and engines, love the sound of a really fast car, so HOT.

Its not that he is sick of it he is just fussy which performers he goes to see, he likes attitude and style. I think a lot of burlesque is for woman, most of the audiences at a pure burlesque night are woman.

maybe cos theres so much sparkly props and fluffy things, it appeals to women??
i love 'normal' stripping but the modern strip clubs are just soooo in your face, and i for one do not want to see another girl's naked vag flaps right in my face. lol
i can cope with topless bars, but naked bars are just like porno.
porno, to me, is just like slapping two steaks together.
sexy however, is so much better.

My blokey is a major help. He's had a break from all of the burly stuff with me and after shangri-la he is enjoying it again now!
usually he will go off and sit with the other stranded blokes, after he has had a run down of everything that I will need hehe. And as for gawping at boobs... well he only has a look if they are doing something really interesting.

The current squueze has taken to burly and love of all things glitterys like a duck to water.were not serious yet by anymeany but having someone who's supportive and who'll text to make sure your at the club makes so much more differance than a nonchalaunt or negative boyf.

it took me a year to get edd to have myspace, two years for facebook and i just got annoyed ages ago and set him up a MOB account... sheerly for the reference MOB points i must say...
somehow i don't think he'll join here. I just nudged him and he said (i quote)
"geroof.... i'm killin bugs...oh...i'm dead...dammit...mmm ginger nut..."
he's just eaten a ginger nut 'biscuit' (word inserted so warren cannot twist it)and a pickled egg in pretty much the same mouthful!

my personal best is sudoku in one hand, hot choc in the other and a tub of cottage cheese in the soap dish...i did try and balance some peanut butter on bread on my head once but it fell in...
i don't have much time so much eating is done in the bath or on the internet...

Back to the topic ...
My man is a burlesque boyfriend and he always helps me out. He is my chaperone, chaffuer, biggest fan and best critic all at once! I really value his help with my routines but at times he really hates it because I get so stressed out.
He's not a big burlesque fan himself, but then he just can't understand the performer's mentality! He's so down to earth himself that he can't understand why we get up and do what we do. But I'm getting him more into the scene. He likes the performers and appreciates the work that goes into the routines, especially when they're funny (he's one of the ones who prefers things like comedy and music to the stripping), but he thinks there's too much emphasis on the image and all the dressing up when you're just in the audience.
I will get him in a corset one day though!

Its nice to have somewhere where you can dress up loads! I love dressing up so I appreciate the opportunity, I know not everyone feels that way, I know Baby Bones doesn't have a dress code at Smooch so everyone feels comfortable but I still dress up loads!

Does anyone get shy at showing boyfs their routines?
Im really nervous at my boyfriends comming and seeing me perform, im also so scared of practicing in front of him, which is odd as im really happy and comfortable with him. He has probably seen me naked more times than he has had hot dinners so not sure where the problem is?

I did feel really self concious when I first practised in front of Tim, but he's the best critic, he tells me if there's anything I need to change and has some really good ideas too.
At first I couldn't stop laughing but I think it was just cause I was putting on my "burly face" as he calls it!! xx

I know exactly what you mean.. after I'd done some workshops, I'd come home and not be able to stop wiggling about in the kitchen. But, as soon as I heard John in the vicinity, I'd stop immediately. Something about doing it in front of him feels really embarrassing and odd.

I feel just like that Cecilia - yet I can't understand it, for the same kind of reasons as you. It's strange....(maybe I'd feel better once I was more confident about the whole thing?)

I think its cos they know you so well that its odd trying on a different 'persona' or character in front of them, I'm sure once you've done it a few times and they're used to it it will just become another facet of your fabulous personalities.

My man hates helping me practise because I get so stressed, but he'll always do it (he's got no choice in the matter, mwahaha). I think there's been one performance I've done where he's not been there. He's very honest with me - too honest at times - but sometimes he just doesn't get what it is I'm trying to do. He always tells me when I do something particularly well or badly though. And as for the other persona thing - I wish I could do that. Fleur's just another name, not another personality, which is what she needs to be ...

Oh im glad im not the only one who feels like that about boyfs. I took him to his first burly night last week and he loved it and really appreciated the work the girls had put into their routines so I think he'd help me a lot, I tried doing a few cheesecake poses to him and he just laughed

I think another issue is that what they say means the most to you, so trying something new and risking them laughing or in my case no 'getting it' is difficult. I don't mind Rob hearing me singing at all, but a sexy little strip and I'd feel awkward, which is so daft its unreal as lets just say we're not inhibited in the bedroom

I'm not a performer (though I'd like to be at some point) but my boyfriend/fiance absolutely does not get burlesque. I think he finds it too weird...he's not used to that kind of sillyness and sexyness mixed into one. I desparately want to do something burlesque - I have so many idea for acts I'd like to do - and he says he's okay with it...I very much hope to do a performance and convince him it's brilliant!
