Tea

What I'm going to say next may seem controversial, and I apologise for the shock it may cause, I also advise you to sit down.

Sat down?

Ok.. I.. don't... like tea. Embarassed

The shocking part over with, I've heard there are teas that aren't, well, tea. That makes very little sense lol, but I've heard that there are flavoured teas (fruit teas etc) but I don't know the first thing about them. So I was wondering if anyone here had tried any, and what you'd recommend?

Dear Miss Lou,

I quite understand your predicament, I myself cannot stand breakfast blend tea, or as I call it builders tea. I much prefer a fragrant blend of aromatic teas.

My personal favourite alternative to tea is as follows;

1. Place four thin slices of fresh ginger in a saucepan and cover with with a cup of water

2. Bring to the boil and simmer for a few minutes.

3. Pour the water into your favourite little cup (or heaven forbid a mug) and add the juice of half a freshly squeezed lemon.

4. Add honey to taste.

5. Sit down pick up your copy of Twirlers Weekly and relax.

I hope this appeals.

Kisses,

Ruby

As a lover of builders' tea, made in the mug, and brewed strong enough to dissolve the teaspoon, I'd like to try to be a bit more refined about my tea occasionally! But I'm always in awe of those who can be faffed with the business of warming the pot, straining the leaves, crooking the pinky etc etc. Does it actually make a difference (especially with horrible limescaly London water)?

Kitty Lou - I'm not crazy about most fruit teas (the Twinings ones are usually "fruit flavour" and seem to bear as much resemblance to real fruit as a packet of Chewits) but herbal teas are another matter. If you like aniseed-type flavours, then fennel tea's fantastic, but my favourite is by a company called Celestial Seasonings, called Sleepytime Tea - it's got camomile, spearmint, valerian, and a few other bits and bobs, and it's wonderfully soothing on those nights when nothing else is getting you to sleep!

If you go to Whittards (most high streets) they have more fancy teas than you can shake a rich tea finger at, and usually have samples you can taste.

Aswell as the aforementioned spoon-melting breakfast tea (just a dask of milk, one sugar/sweetener), I am a fan of peppermint tea from anywhere, and also Twinings Honey, Vanilla and Camomile, with a little extra honey, always makes me pleasantly snoozey!

I once got some wonderful strawberry and cream tea from a farm shop in Devon - in fact I could go on and on about tea, so I'll stop now before I scare people Laughing

This is the right place for scarey tea talk, you are amongst friends here, no one will tell your secret!

Mmmmm, ginger and lemon tea sounds lovely! I expect thats a bit of a detox potion.
Amber Rosia

Can I reccommend Twinnings Strawberry, Raspberry and Loganberry tea - its tastes divine and needs no sweetening what so ever
smashingsadie

While we are being honest - I absolutely hate fruit tea!

I adore Brewhaha Rose Tea! And Chai - I drink an absolute tonne of that. You can even get vanilla chai powder in Tesco now yey!

I've never tried Chai, but if it comes in a vanilla flavour I'm so adding it to the 'neccessity' list on my monthly food shop this week, sounds delicious!

tea

i did not used to like tea but i do now, i started on normal tea with sugar now i can drink it with out i realy do not mind but one thing which i adore is camomile and pepermint tea and green tea espically with honey.
smashingsadie

Peppermint tea is divine, and settles my tummy nicely. Chamomile, however nice it is, doesn't appear to agree with me for some reason!

Diva, can I give a gorgeous coffee tip? It's a specialist coffee, so you would need to find a coffee/tea specialist like Whittards.
Ask for Kenyan Peaberry. It's not ultra strong, more mid range, it smells and tastes delicious. Get them to grind it for cafetiere, or as the Americans refer to it: French Press.
Diva Hollywood

Oh thanks for the tip honey to be honest I have been put off a lot of Kenyan coffee as I fine them bitter and go Columbian as its got a lovely nutty flavor. We do have a coffee emporium in Liverpool will give them a try.

You fu coffee

Can't have dark rich collumbian at the mo.
Mmm speacial coffe just add the finest irish wiskey and cream.

Herbal tea makes you pee.
And there's a fine line between stewed to buggery and slightly flavoured water.

Diets suck !

Today I bought some ground coffee from Java, so far it's the best I have found. I do like Costa Rican as well.

I had to buy an espresso machine for the office the other week as I wasn't getting enough caffeine and buying a coffee from the canteen each day was starting to add up.

Yogi tea is my favourite thing in the world!! It's brilliant and tastes like cinnamon... don't drink too much though a small pot should be enough for the day otherwise you get bored of it.

I drink green tea like it's water. My mother has been a long-term drinker of Pu'er tea which has recently came under the media's attention as it can apparently burn 100 calories with every mug. (It completely solved the mystery why my mother is still slender after three children, which baffled me completely)

But go out and try loads of tea!! that's what makes tea so enjoyable at times.  For me, trying different tea leaves is extremely exciting and a tea party would have me jumping up and down on my bed.

I once tried a £50 per pound of jasmine tea and that was divine. Due to my oriental heritage I am inclined to say herbal and fruit tea is the way to go. But I understand every tea lovers feeling to a warm cup of tea; builders tea or not.
Miss Baby Bones

*runs out to buy tonnes of calorie burning tea*

hurruh! bring on the cakes!!

I forgot to mention that Pu'er tea is VERY VERY expensive. I heard that Madonna pays over £100 for a pound worth of it. But if you go to your local chinese supermarket, they sell them in convenient tea bags as well as loose for a cheaper price.
Meanwhile I'll try search for some in my mother's house for everyone to try at Ruby's slumber party ^_^
Miss Baby Bones

*runs off to chinese supermarket*

thanks!
