She took my money...Hello ladies,
I hope you can help me, I am at my absolute wits end!!
I ordered some fans in November from someone who is quite well known on the uk burlesque scene, thinking that this would give me some buyer protection, I paid her for them, because I know how important money is for performers. I had seen examples of her fans and thought how lovely they were. I really needed the fans before I went off on tour to NZ/OZ on January 1st, but they didn't arrive. I then emailed and asked if the fans would be done by my return on May 1st, but when I arrived home, there were no fans!
There are still no fans, and now she is ignoring my emails, facebook & myspace messages. Now I feel like I am stalking her!!
I am trying to plan my wedding, and I have had to cut the budget already as my father was made redundant, and now with no fans and no money it all appears rather hopeless.
Now I don't want the fans, I just want my money back, so i can go to someone more reputable. I don't want to name names just now, I just need some advice.
HELP!

how did you pay for them? was it over paypal or a more recorded method?
i would get your legal advisor to address a solicitors letter to them, saying as you have recorded evidence of you sending the money (which i hope you do!) then if they do not cough up in an allotted time they shall be taken to small claims court.
who the hell would be that stupid?!
could it be an honest mistake? have they like, died? can you see activity on their facebook account?
failing this, if you need the mafia give me a call

Luckily, and thankfully I paid with a direct bank transfer.
So I have evidence of everything. Thanks to google I also have her name, address, home phone number and father's name...who is lovely by the way, and very helpful!
I am very close to naming names, but don't really want to bad mouth anyone, and am trying to keep the whole thing discreet!
Although her facebook shows no signs of use, so now I am worried about her too! My God, what if she is laying in a ditch somewhere?
She has not answered any phonecalls yet, but I do feel slightly wierd and stalky by pestering her!!
So I will lodge a small claim on Monday. I have a very lovely solicitor too, who I will get to send her a letter!
I imagine she has probably spent the money and so can't give it back...I've seen her costumes and they are very lovely indeed! It's nice to know that I have paid for pretty things.

Personally, I'd mention who she is - if you have truely given her plenty of opportunity to contact you. Even if she has had problems, she should let you know.
It may be happening to others, or others may be wanting to place orders. If you are a business you need to value customers, and if you don't, then your reputation deserves to suffer (in a factual and honest way).
But then that's just me!
Its a bit different, but I mentioned a negative shopping experience on here, and the shop owner read it, and fixed the issue for other customers.

Just spoke to her Dad who had managed to get hold of her.
Apparently she has given the money to a company in the states and got them to make the fans.
It sounds a little suss, as i don't believe it would take six months to and deliver emerald green fans, especially since they have yet to be delivered! and I really don't like being ignored. You don't take someones money and then ignore them, it's just bad customer service, especially when the scene is so small and you are well known!
I am getting quite cross! So apparently she is back tonight and I should expect an email tomorrow.
Let's see shall we? Personally i don't hold out much hope.
If there is nothing in my email box tomorrow evening, I am starting a small claim, and I shall name and shame right here!!

personally, i wouldnt name her online.
but i would damn well shout about it in person to anyone who cared to listen.
it just makes you look better thats all!
definitely if no email today send her an email/phone msg to say 'expect a solicitors letter shortly if you do not deliver these damn fans'
which will hopefully jolt her into at least replying.
getting her dad to clean up her business fck ups? thats pathetic.
6 months for some feather fans?
atrocious.

Email came through today!!!
See below, although names and places have been edited to protect her identity.
"hey, i'm so sorry i haven't been ignoring you. i just got back from ***** late last night and have been quite busy the past few weeks so haven't been checking e-mails as often as i used to.
the first i've heard about your trying to get in touch was when my dad called me yesterday saying your husband called but that he was very nice and polite about the situation.
the company has gotten on my last nerve as they've constantly let me down and run late with orders but this has gotten rediculous now, i know green is the hardest colour to get right and i have been e-mailing with them back and forth but now i will ask them to refund the money as they've had it for a while. i'm not sure how long this will take as they've been tricky over it in the past so what i will do is pay you back bit by bit from my own wages as i'm not sure they will refund the full amount, if at all and they may take their time over it.
if you can send me bank details i will put in £50 tomorrow and will do so weekly till the full amount is returned or they've refunded to my account.
i'm so sorry for not being able to get in touch before and i understand why you were so stressed.
i can also offer you if you'd like, my first pair of *** fans as i was planning to sell them on ebay, they are in good condition and i will also fix them up a bit so you can use these onstage?
i feel terrible over this situation, i've been trying to find a better wholesaler for feathers as it is so nice to see people using fans i've made onstage but they've just given me a whole lot of hassle the past year or so.
i've gone into costume making now as i really enjoy being creative, i actually enjoy it more than performing now as the constant travel is very draining, i'm currently exhausted! plus then i can go buy fabrics and know it's not going to take forever to arrive so if you can trust me in future i'll offer discount on anything you want making such as rhinestoned bras, g-strings, skirts, embellished corsets (under or overbust), and giant *************** like I used to use in my act ****************
i hope this works out as i feel terrible about all this!
let me know, and i hope to work with you sometime soon (did you send me video's a while ago? i think it's you who does the opera striptease? i think that would be perfect for the october ************** if so?)"
So this is what I received today. I think it is interesting that she logged into myspace, but didn't see my messages and in the time between me arriving home and now, she hasn't got one of my 10 or so email messages, facebook messages etc. She also managed to deny my husbands facebook friend request with his attached message.
I think six months is excessive and that it is unforgivable to provide such terrible customer service, but since she has now offered me my money back, I shall just cautiously go elsewhere and end things amicably.
I'm just thankful that I don't have to take legal action. I suppose I really have her father to thank. So thank you Daddy!

thats just complete rubbish.
but at least shes going to attempt to pay you back, if pathetic amounts at a time.
the onus is on the person to pay back the money, so legally theres not much else you can do unless she misses these payments.
terrible.
