RED ALERT!!!

Girls.. I must confess... I haven't worn red lipstick in a while.. and would like to buy one (or two...).

Now, I know that certain reds are good for pale skin/or warm skin/brunettes/blondes etc... but, could you offer me any advice.

In the past, I've noticed that the 'bluer' the red, the less flattering it is for me. I have pale skin and blonde hair. Orangey reds seem a bit better (at least I think they do).

Any tips on colours, brands, - ohhh yes, and lipliners would be MOST appreciated! Thank you lovelies! Smile
Ruby Rose

Mac seems to be the number one for lipsticks, although I'm rather fond of Chanel.

The trick is to go to a counter and get one of the girlies to help you. DO NOT be itimidated by them, take your time, try every colour you like until you find your perfect shade. Try not to buy a special promotional colour thats only being run for the season as it will only break your heart when you can't get it again. I think Mac do Russian Red which is rather popular. But just take your time, go out into daylight with a little mirror and check how it goes with your skin tone as flourescent lighting never helps. It's a very personal and important thing chosing that correct shade of red, ahem, well it is for me tee hee!

Blue toned reds are best for pale skins with a pinky tinge, if you have more of a creamy complexion you need to for a more orange based. I got mine from bnevertobusytobebeautiful, they were really helpful. Also I would follow Rubys advice, ask advice! Thats what they're there for. Benefit often give makeovers and things you could try there.
Cherry Noir

I have nothing helpful to add other than you can never have too many 'types' of red lipstick - glossy, matt, glittery, pearly, sheer, deep, dark, Hollywood, subtle and full on 'kiss me now' red. It's a colour that will go with everything (depending on the 'type') and will always make you feel like a fox (even if you're just poping down to Sainsbury's Wink ). I will however echo Ruby's sentiments on how heart-braking it is to discover 'the perfect red' only to have it cruelly discountinued - it's happened to me a staggering FIVE (count them!) times Crying or Very sad , and I'm still mourning my very first and very best shade (Oh Lusty Lil, when will you return to me, sob...) Happy hunting, let us know what you find!

I know, it's a good one isn't it Laughing . Conjures images of a woman refusing to give up her 'glamorous youth' and sticking to the fur coat, all her jewels, heels and red lips that are no longer acceptable at her age - or is that just me Embarassed . I think I was always desined to be in the wonderful world of Bq, even at the tender age of 14 I was drawn to the name as much as the colour - in fact, I may even create a character/performance in honour of ol' Lusty Lil...

Hi Lil Minx

Have you had any luck with a lippy yet? I'm a blue eyed blonde and I find these two work well for me.

Max Factor Hyperfull Range No 130 "Voluptous" which is a nice shiny red in a stick that is good for modern red wearing occasions like work etc.

When I want a more vintage look I wear a matt red "Bermuda" by Dana Perfumes Corp in the TABU range.

(This one is so authentic it smells like old people, a bit off putting but worth it.)

I'd love to hear what you've found works.

Lipsticky kisses

Lots of products are scented - its what upsets my skin 9 times out of 10!

If anyone wants to try a cheap good red I'm raving about New York Colour's Ultra Moist Lipstick in Retro Red. It only costs £2.50 in Superdrug and its brilliant! Its the red I'm wearing in my Myspace picture >_<

I've always noticed, I like buying makeup that has that "old lady" smell, it doesn't make me think of old ladies though, it makes me think of my mum and the smell of her makeup bag. Makes me feel safe and happy, so I deliberately get makeup like that, even if I wont actually use it.

Now you've said that I've realised that it does smell like my Mother's makeup - I have some loose powder that makes me think of her (she'll kill me if she finds out I said "old people" perhaps I meant "50's make up wearers" Very Happy )

She had the most fabulous red lippie in a gold chased case and a gold compact.

Completely shaped my ideas of glamour - which I told her recently and she seemed pleased.
