Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Hats galore! My mum has a collection of over thirty that I used to love playing dress up with (what am I saying used to!) My favourite was a black velvet pill pox hat with a bow on the side Smile Only started making my own the past couple of months so looks like I have a long way to catch you up!

Very pretty - next up - the modelling pictures! Oodles of fun trying them on when they arrive no doubt! x
Thrilby

I am so glad that there is someone else who loves them as much as I do!!
My mum loves it when we go out - if we end up in a shop that sells hats whe is in stitches as I will try on the most outragous thing going and pose!!  Trouble is I suit most types of hats!

I've not been making mine for much longer than you, I want to start making hats usuing the vintage techniques.  I recently came across a few original books on eBay as well - they are as prosed as my hats.

I can't wait to try them on - only trouble is they are being delivered to my work address to malke sure they arrive, so I will be able to chack them and have a look, but will have to wait until I get home to try them on properly!
I will post pictures as soon as I can!

You could always sneak off into the toilets with them... Though with that many you'd probably have to make quite a few trips! Smile x

I am hoping to start making them myself as well - these are for inspiration as well as generally looking fabulous around my room - although I may need to put up some more shelves....... Confused

just had a mad memory

when i was about 15. i went to a little theatre for am dram,

anyway the youth theatre were doing a revue show, all different scenes, singing dancing etc, and we were doing a dance to david bowie, "ground control to major tom" the director decided that we needed strange alien type hats, so we decided to use rubber swimming caps, and they were to be decorated with sequins, but they needed to be stretched to stick them, my friend tasha and i were the suckers who sat there with the rubber hats on while teams of people stuck on the sequins,

they were using super glue, which at the time was really smelly, and gave a great high,

i believe it took about a day for us to both totally come down!!!!

oooooooooooooooh  I want I want .....

ok going to have to photograph my collection now ... LOL

where do our source your hats?

xx
Thrilby

Thank you ladies - It's nice to see that you are all enjoying them as well - I think my house mate gets a little fed up with it all!!

I had two in the post today - The black and blue ones that sit across the crown of the head - I shall try and get said housemate to take pics tonight so I can show you what they look like on.

May have to take pics of rest of the collection now as well!!

I mainly get them from Ebay - search under vintage hats/millinery
Also some vintage/retro/charity shops
There is also an event here in London at Chealsea Town Hall called Frock Me where EVERYTHING for sale is vintage

I love them anyway - but at the moment they are helping as inspiration for ideas to make my own versions!

There is a possibility that I would need some models, but I will let you all know.
Dorothy

Hey I`m thinking of going to said Frock Me...anyone fancy meeting up?

We can dribble in tandem Laughing

I have just checked the listings guide, am I correct in thinking the next Frock Me is 24th Feb.  Shall we make a day out of it and all dress up to the nines.

Thrilby

Yes, Miss Ruby, Frock Me is on the 24th Feb.
I think that is a swell idea - a few of us have it in our diaries and it would be great to meet people properly

Ooh I'd love to see it if it looks like something somebody could start with. Or do people have other suggestions on a good starting point. I'm generally quite crafty but have no intention of specialising in hats, i'd just like to be able to make a few bits to go with costumes, etc
