I don't know if they have this stuff over there but I use Clairol Balsam Color: Black #618. I have been dying my hair black for nearly 14 years and it is the only color I have used that never fades, never stops shining, and allows me to not worry about anything but touching up the roots.

To give you an idea of how well it works... I used to have hair to my waist. When I first started dying my hair black, it was less than midway down my back. In all the time I was growing my hair, I never had to touch anything but the roots. So, for about 3 years, a majority of my hair was never touched by dye again and it still stayed just as dark and shiny as the day I dyed it. AND it didn't fry or damage my hair. No split ends and it was very silky and soft. Of course, not many people actually have problems when they're just dying it black. I just did my roots yesterday. My hair is now just below my chin. Only the first two inches has been touched in the past year. The rest is still nice and black and shiny.

If I used any other black dye, my roots would get dull within a week or so.

The funny thing about it is, this is probably the lowest priced black hair dye I've ever found. That is the reason we initially got it because I was only going to dye my hair black for halloween and then lighten it in stages over time. I decided I liked the way I looked with black hair and it's been that way ever since.

I can't find Clairol balsam on any UK websites - we've got nice 'n easy (which I think I've tried) but that's it.

If it's as good as you say it is, I might just buy some on the internet!

3 years without touch-up colour! That is amazing, really.

I still haven't got the knack of doing my roots yet - I always miss a bit and have a weird brown patch on my head doh!

haha well buy a box of it off the net and see if you like it. I know different hair dyes react with different peoples hair in odd ways. You may not get the same results I do with this dye. But, out of all the friends I've ever turned on to it, none of them have ever had a problem. They all swear by it now.

I hope it works out for you. If it does, you can always buy in bulk and be set for the year Wink haha

If you have problems getting it to ship to the UK, let me know and I'll send you some.

I'll defo investigate further and if I can't get any I'll let you know. Thanks for the posting offer. Me and my hair are very grateful!

Nice and Easy Natural Black is excellent and not too brash but still black.
