Oh Please Help! Wedding Make-Up Dilemma!I'm finding that a big wedding (stupid future husband with his grand ideas) is a nightmare to plan, however, I've been really organised and in spite minimal funds and getting made redundant I've managed to get almost everything paid off. However, I'm left with no budget to buy anything for me and I'm terrified of having bad skin on my wedding day. I could just cry.
I went for a make-up trial yesterday with Lancome and the stuff they put on me was great, however, the total price of the products is £190! (and that's before eyeshadow, mascara etc) I don't even have £50 right now. The base they used was amazing (I've never used a make up base before) but it was around £25 which is not really affordable for me. What I mainly need is a decent base and decent foundation for combination skin. Can anyone make any suggestions for someone on a very tight budget? I'm really desperate and getting myself into a horrible panic about this.

The Body Shop have similar colours to 'designer' ones in eye shadows and what not, and they're pretty good quality.
I don't know what their bases are like, but the mascara is very good and the eye shadows go on well (and stay).
Maybe if you got the more costly (and in my opinion, better) bases but then didn't buy designer shadows and colours it would work out better.
See if anyone has any sample pots you could have too from different make up counters in department stores and what not.

I got a sample of the make up base they have in the body shop yesterday and tried it today. The effect of it with my normal make-up over the top wasn't as good as what the lady at Lancome did yesterday, but i'm thinking if I invest in a decent base, some decent brushes, and some of those mattifying papers to touch up when I start looking shiny, maybe I can get away with using the make up I already have. Then I can probably get away with spending about £35 cause the body shop base is £10, the mattifying papers are about £4 and I saw some decent(ish) brushes in Marks and Spencer for about £20.
I mean, if I get a decent base and practise lots it should be ok, shouldn't it? I am so hopeless with make-up.

What about a primer? MAC do several, including one which contains 50spf and they come in at under £20.

I think the difference is having someone put your makeup on for you as well as the products themselves.
I found the mineral foundation makeup from Maybelline (??) very good, yet when Ruby uses my products and does my make up at trade shows it is always better.

I know they're not as cheap, but the brushes from Body Shop are very very good, and not rediculously priced compared to brushes from like Bobbi Brown or somewhere.
Bobbi Brown is quite expensive, but they might have one product that you could use instead of maybe 3 or whatever that you might use from somewhere else.

Ooooh, thanks for all the ideas ladies  I'm gonna go on another tour of the beautyf counters and make up shops this weekend I think. I'm currently feeling hugely annoyed as I've checked over my budget and realised I've spent £60 on accessories and gifts for 2 bridesmaids I didn't want (my cousins, family pressure, enough said) and now I don't have the money to buy myself nice make up or anythign. ARGH! On the positive side, my lovely (though skint) Mum has said she'll help me out getting my make-up and she's going to pay for me to have my eyebrows waxed and shaped (cause I can't shape my own brows to save my life).

Ive never tried the primers but I also use Lancomes foundation -Teint Idole. I have awful problem skin, and this is the only make up Ive found to last all day without sliding off my face! I also use L'oreal which is very similar ( and they're part of the same company- so Im guessing their ingredients may be much the same but cheaper?  ) I agree that your foundation is worth spending money on, but cheaper eye colours etc would be fine I think too.
Waterproof masacra is a good tip, someone told me- you'll probably end up crying at some point!!( tears of joy, of course!!)

I dunno if there's anywhere near you that offers this, but how about eyebrow threading? I get perfect brows for £3!
I've never understood why bridesmaids get gifts. Or indeed all the hundreds of other people who are supposed to get gifts. Isn't the point that they've participated and helped out?

£3? Wow. I was going to get them waxed and shaped at a place near where I live which costs 11, but I'm going to have a look into having them threaded if it will work out cheaper
As for the presents, well, I don't mind buying gifts for the bridesmaids I chose, cause I adore them and I love buying gifts for people I adore, but I have to buy gifts for the two I didn't want cause otherwise I'll look like a total cow for only giving gifts to some of them. Grrr. Etiquette and tradition have a lot to answer for.

Anna Fur Laxis is in your neck of the woods and she is top of my recommendation list, if you need any help I'm sure she'll be only to happy to guide you, you only have to look at her fabulous face to know she knows her stuff.
I'm in Leeds on the weekend of the 3rd of October so if that's not too late I will come shopping with you and kit you out for much cheapness.
By the way aloe vera gel makes a great makeup base and it's only £1.99 in Holland and Barrett.

Also don't discount the cheaper brands, Rimmel and Collection 2000 actually have some good products in their lines, people often assume that if something is cheap it doesn't work.

Thanks for the tip Ruby, I might drop Anna an message and see what she advises. Unfortunately the 3rd of October is the day I'm getting married, so you'll be here a little too late to save my skin 
I'm going to try the aloe gel though. I'll pop into Holland and barrett this weekend

I have mine threaded at one of those Asian beauty parlours where they do nails and henna make-up as well as being a hairdressers and a body hair waxers! They do threading in Debenhams too but I think it's more expensive, and there's usually a crowd of people watching!
Go to Poundland for their presents!!!
I'm probably getting married next year and the niceities of who I should invite and who I don't want to is gnawing at me even now. I think I'll bite the bullet and get married abroad!

The plan was have a small wedding then just invite everyone to the pub for a reception, until Jai actually proposed. Then he turned into groomzilla and insisted on a big monstrosity of ostentatious ridiculousness. *grumblegrumble*

I know, I had one done before, the make-up is lovely but I have to apply it my own way. The girls in the shop are really nice but don't listen and I ended up looking like I had a halloween horror mask on (however, when I use the products myself I'm pretty pleased with them).

have you tied mineral base - i get mine fom lily lilo on line and they do sample pots for a pound! It is the only base i can use without breaking into spots, you can build up as much coverage as you like and it is breathable, creulty free and lasts ages. x miss maybe
