Making your own shampooI bought this amazing book called 'The Art and Craft of Hairdressing' circa. 1930's. It's described as 'a standard and complete guide to the technique of modern hairdressing, manicure, massage and beauty culture'
Anyway I found a recipe for shampoo(s) and all sorts of other hair treatment recipes. If someone could try it and see how it goes that would be cool.
Ingredients:
Soft soap (20ml)
Alcohol (5ml)
Terpineol (0.25)
10% solution of potassium carbonate
rose water (30ml)
water, distilled (100ml)
(I am going to literally copy what it says in the book)
Dissolve the soft soap in about 40ml of distilled water heated to boiling.
Add to this the terpineol (or other perfume) dissolved in alcohol,
then the rose water and afterwards the solution of potassium carbonate.
Finally make up to the stipulated volume with distilled water.
Tint with carmoisine or otherwise according to taste and the perfume used.
the 10% solution of potassium carbonate is made by dissolving ten parts of potassium carbonate in sufficient distilled water to produce a hundred parts.
Well the forum now has another piece of historical information on it
