long vs shortI was waiting for a bus and saw a fab woman walk past me with gorgeous victory rolls complete with the back roll along the neck line. It looked so great and took me by surprise as I dont ever usually see anyone around my part of london who dresses vageuly vintage.
It got me thinking.....what is the easiest length of hair to have to style it in rolls and other vintage styles?
I may chop some of my length off if it would make it easier?
How long is your hair?

Too many women cut their hair. Long hair can be made to look fantastic!
Even I have long hair and Im a guy!

It could never be short short, as its way too thick and wavy/curly, but I could crop it to shoulder length - I tried a victory roll last week and it just seems I have too much hair!

I dont consider hair to be long until it's around the shoulderblades. Keep it! Especially if you have long curly / wavy hair! That's my favorite kind! It makes the messy look extremely sexy.

See what I realised is that no matter what length of hair you have, vintage styles work. What doesn't make them work is layers (which I soon discovered) The layers look pretty but I can't put my hair up in the usual styles that I favour because it falls apart on me! So I'm growing them out and if anyone can recommend a great hairdresser that can cut my hair that I can still put my hair up (without it falling apart) and that looks nice on it's own... I'd be ever so grateful.

Yes I had started to realise that too - I need to grow my layers out....but I've always had them to make my hair thinner and more managable. But I will give it a go.

You need to go and see Miss Betty Kat.
She is the most fabulous hairdresser, now with a salon in Kingly Court, just off Carnaby Street.
She cuts as well as styles hair with vintage techniques. me and Ruby went back in September and our hair is still in great shape now that it has grown for a few months!
Link below to her myspace page.

Prices no different to a normal hairdressers, but you get the added red velvet, leopard print chairs and vintge music.
Her husband also cuts mens hair, with an old fashioned barbers chair and razors!!!
just worth a vist nothing else!

Thanks, I recently went to Nina's hair parlour which was quite cool and she cute a perfect betty fringe in for me.
I am also interested in trying this place http://www.pimpsandpinups.com/
I will check out betty Kat too, thanks

I think pimps and pinups ae a retro themed salon, but modern cuts!
Miss Betty and Nina are the only two vintage hairdressers in London.
Then add in our own Miss Ruby Rose as stylists.

Oh I can't wait to get another hair cut now! I'm just so frustrated that I got so many layers in my hair and it doesn't even look that much better.

Sorry to ninja the thread, but does anyone know a good hairdresser (who doesn't make you look like Victoria Beckham) in the North maybe Leeds?
I tried a lot of hairdressers in York and they were all rubbish and didn't listen to what I wanted. Going to my old hairdresser (she is amazing) is pretty expensive as it involves flights

I don't know anyone with vintage hairdressing skills locally Freya. I go to a local village hairdresser who I allow to cut the back of my hair becasue she follows the very specific instructions I have issued her with, and I cut my fringe myself.

Whenever I get my hair cut and tell the hairdresser I want to grow out my layers, they always cut more bloody layers in.
And I have a phobia of getting my hair cut.

May sound silly, but you could try a hairdressers where all the old ladies go?
I think someone reccommened that to me, they are more used to the older styles, but I get the impression they will listen to what you actually want!

It was Muswell Hill, North London, walking past the 144/w7 bus stop.

I kind of wish my hair was shorter. It would be so much easier to style, though the curls would just spring back even more.
Gah, I wish it was straight!
