Porcelain Rouge,
when the new pretty pink version of the BWI forum is ready, there will be sections about burlesque workshops in your area.
for eg, BWI run them up and down the country, while Keda Breeze runs them in Bristol, Bella Besame runs hers in Mancs, and my troupe Vavavavoom! run a course in Brighton
not to mention the School for Striptease in london by Jo King
who im assured is actually alot nicer than that tv programme made her out to be.
(i thought she was alright on tv tho, but thats my opinion)
which course did you do before, if you dont mind my asking?

Ooo the big pink forum! How exciting!
Miss Baby Bones,
I did the MOB beginners course a couple of months ago in London, but missed the last session due to rubbish train delays!
does anyone know of any burlesque scene in Leicester i could try and wiggle myself into? I am doing a lingerie degree and even if i don't fulfill my dream of being an entertainer i would love to make contacts, hopefully to wear my collection on stage, for my final project!

ah leicester, we went up there for a gig. not much around is there?
if you're determined to do another course, your best bet is prob looking for the major cities near you (is Leeds near-ish?)
and contacting people from those areas
as far as i know-
Bella Besame - manchester
Eva Braun - Leeds (i dont think Eva runs any burly workshops -yet!- but perhaps she will have contacts that do?
any other cities? i dont have a map here...
why do you think you failed anyway? im sure it wasnt as bad as you think!
get yourself on ebay/amazon and check out burly books, burly films and old MGM films
for books, check out the costumes and get inspired!
for films, look at their dancing and copy the simpler moves. like posture and poses.
it might even inspire you for an act!
other good movies i found for watching the striptease element, if you can stand the bad plots are:
Barb Wire
Striptease
Showgirls
tee hee, yes i know they're awful but really really good imagey as far as costumes go.
if you wanna get proper about it, also look at the film Chicago. full of showgirls!!

Toots!
Ah Chicago, I adore that film! All that jazz! Will have to check out the other films you have recommended.
The course was brilliant and both gypsy charms ad viva adventure were beautiful. It was just me being a nervous wreck!! Instead of fully enjoying it! Was too worried that people would think I was raaaabish! Tut tut! silly moi!
...and yet I want to perform to an audience? Ha!
Closest cities to Leicester are
Robin Hood’s Nottingham and Birmingham which I hope to see the fabulous Miss Dirty Martini later this month!
I’m sooo excited!
Thank you so much for your help Miss Baby Bones.

thats alright hun.
perhaps you're expecting too much of yourself too soon?
best advice is to chill out, and just try enjoy yourself at things.
go to loads of burly shows/clubs and see it live, its great to watch and often gives you inspiration.
go to clubs and dance, get confident on the dance floor.
then can i recommend some try-out nights? like Hip Hip in london?
get a friend to try out and travel with you?
its a very full night, so theres loads of performers and you dont feel alone or in the spotlight too much. its also very friendly.
its great experience, all you have to do is msg them for a slot.
i think if you google whoopee club homepage theres a link?

Yes, let us know how you got on. Did you see the Faking It Burlesque episode where Scarlet started off really shy and unsure and became a fab performer? She has a a myspace page and may be able to offer you some advice, it sounds like something that would help give you a bit of confidence.
