fat and unhappy about it....i need a collective kick up the backside from you all please to help me get going on my diet. I want to loose 1 1/2 stones as i am very unhappy about my current weight (11 1/2 stones). I got down to 10 1/2 for my sisters wedding 2 years ago but its piled back on again. I find it very hard to loose weight , not only do i a have a sweet tooth but the medication i am on for my schizoaffective disorder does make you put weight on...
i would feel much better about myself, be much much ,much fitter (the stairs at college puff me out) and my wardobe would quadruple in size !
so lots of reasons...having tried all manner of diets , including diets pills but i know i just have to eat less of the sweet things and exercise more but i am rather motivationless at the mo don`t know why...maybe i`ve realised i`m been fatter longer than i`ve been thin...as a teenager i was very skinny and but when i got ill i got fat....but i`ve always felt that was a blip and i would return to my previous weight, but actually the skinny thing is now a blip! i don`t actually want to be skinny-just normal, nicely rounded so i can fit into a size 12-14 but still have boobs and butt....

Hi honey
I hear where you are coming from. I thought you looked great when I met you in London and did not think you need to lose weight but I also no how it feels to be heavier than you want to be. I went to weight watchers about 5 years ago and lost 2 and a half stone I have managed to keep it off. It was tough for the first couple of years but now I can pretty much eat what I want again. I still use some of the recipes form weight watchers but I have altered them a bit as I don't find them particularly heathy. I highly recommend it it just made me feel so much better I am still a curey girl and have not lost my boobs as you normal lose about 2 pounds a week so its slow and healthy. Good luck and if you ever need anyone to talk to I am always here.
Love

I know it's a drag to hear it... but it really is about eating less shite and exercising more. I also know that the word 'exercise' isn't exactly the most interesting thing in the world for lots of people too.
Let me share my experience. I'm 5'1 and when I got pregnant with my daughter I developed horrendous migraine problems. So I was given these tablets that basically make you pile weight on. By the time my baby popped out, I weighed 11 stone and I'd started off my pregnancy at 7 stone. By the end of the pregnancy, I could hardly walk up the stairs without wheezing.
I got really low and believed I'd NEVER lose it. I felt like a pig and absolutely hated my body. But... I had a very chubby, happy baby (who is now a very tall skinny young lady so all was well!)
I started off going to exercise classes (aerobics) once a week..walking everywhere with the buggy and if I did well then I treated myself. If I didn't go to class,, I didn't get my treat.
The weight did come off... of course it helped when the tabs were no longer needed... but it was a slow process, some weeks it happened, others it didn't.
The trick is, to exercise by doing something that you love... my happiest place is dancing (Ceroc)... when I started that some years ago, I lost a stone in about 6 weeks just by going once a week... my metabolism picked up, I felt happy, I treated myself by buying a new top or whatever and then looked forward to wearing it when I went back.
Don't be harsh on yourself if somedays it doesn't work... but do things that make you happy and reward yourself regularlly in a sensible way... have lovely homemade smoothies.. have a day 'off' when you don't stress about calories.. but just keep steady and be positive. We're all here... cheering you on!

Minnie has some pretty good ideas there, the exercise is one of the most important things to increase your metabolism as well as to burn off the weight while you're doing it as well. I really liked the treating yourself with clothes idea, definitely the best treat while dieting
Weight watchers also helps where you have targets set out and you have people around you to support you and give you advice.
Basically it all comes down to diet and exercise at the end of the day, you just need to find something that you enjoy doing that will get you out and exercising.

I'm useless at going to the gym, and I've never reall y noticed a difference when I do go.
The only times I've lost weight is when I've been more active without really realising it, e.g. walking everywhere when I was too poor to have a car or get the bus everyday.
I agree that dance classes may be your best bet. You don't even notice that you're excercising and you get the happy endorphins.
If you have a sweet tooth, try preparing some fruit the night before for your lunch - red grapes and melons are nice. And it makes you feel like you're doing something positive

aw hun
how about things like belly dancing, which not only exercise you but celebrate your jiggly bits as you're toning up
swimming is amazing as it tones your whole body
(god i love to swim but hate to share a pool)
definitely try something like the weight watchers, as you feel part of a group and want to keep at it because you've got 'goals'
or try a stint at being vegan. my mate just lost about a stone without even wanting to. im amazed!

Hi honey
burlesque is great to not only the fact that you never get time to eat when you are performing but carrying big bags around tubes and up and down stairs really keeps my weight down, oh yah and the practicing and the dancing help to lol

I am doing weight watchers at the moment nd have lost a stone in 7 weeks, and i gave up choc for lent, (testing my will power)
I will be your diet buddy if you like?
Its fairly easy because its all about points, you can still treat your self when you need to, as long as you count it, doing activity can also increase your point allowence for the day, be it low, medium or high,
Just set yourself little goals at a time, half a stone at a time,
Weight watchers first goal is 10% of you weight which is always a good start,
those that have met me may be suprised (or maybe not) to know that i was over 16 stone when i started 7 weeks ago, and maybe, in a couple of weeks i will be below 15 for the first time in 4 years.
remember, it didnt go on overnight, and it wont come off that way either,
plls can mess up your metabolism, ie, i have the opposite effect with caffine, it makes me sleep, red bull just knocks me out, when i was taking adios, i was losing half a pound a week, stopped taking it, 6 pounds off!!
good luck, im with you all the way

The one thing I would say about Adios, and quite a few other 'diet' pills is that they are just diuretics so they will just reduce the amount of water in your body rather than helping you to actually lose weight. The number of people I stopped buying them when I worked in Holland & Barrett because they didn't actually know what they were buying was unbelievable.

All the advice offered here has been great and from the sounds of it honey you dont need to lose weight but you must be happy and to do that you need to be sensible, dont do diet pills, they are a pile of sh*t.
I have suffered with quite severe eating disorders all my life and finally dealt with it all last year, burlesque definatly helped me embrace my body the way it is and accept that ill never be kate moss! The best advice I can give is to stop worrying about losing weight, the more you restrict the more you crave, just eat normally, three good meals a day and dont restirct yourself, I found by doing that I craved sweet things a lot less as I knew I could have something if I wanted, with that frame of mind I found that I didnt crave as much and my weight stabilised. I was od-ing on every diet pill known to man and laxatives, the results were that I felt ten times worse and looked horrific and ill as a result, not sexy! Snack on yummy fruit like grapes and berries etc, excercise when you can but dont make it a chore, find something you enjoy doing. Do you like photography? I find going on long walks and bimbling about with my camera works wonders as I dont notice im excercising at all.
But trust me, once you stop worrying about dieting your body will find its natural way. Im not dissing anyone's advice here to join diet clubs, go on various diets etc as some of them do really work and bring on fantastic results...all im saying is relax into it and dont pressure yourself as that will only make you unhappy.
Keep us updated xxx

I did Tesco diets (online) last year before my wedding. I had joined the gym and went religiously 3 times a week for about 3 months and nothing was happening. No weight loss OR inch loss (and I am aware that muscle is more dense than fat so you can put weight on that way) - but I had to stop going because I started marking SATs exams and I had 700 papers in my house that had to be done by a certain deadline.
So I started tesco diets & I lost about 10lbs, and I was still having the odd takeaway and going to the chippy! (I lurve chips!) I did try chinese slimming tea too and I did lose 4lbs in 4 days but I was always on the loo, to put it nicely!
I was doing well after the wedding but I have just noticed I've put on about half a stone Going to a party tomorrow and meeting up with some people I went to school with so I'm not happy about that.

aww thanks everyone, thats great advice! i`m feeling more motivated today despite the fact that i have had a chocolate muffin, but i`m not feeling too guilty heh heh. I`ve turned down fish `n`chips thou for something healthy...i think exercise wise i will probably put on a burlesque how to dvd and shimmy around...its the most fun thing i can think and while i have this killer areobics video which i know will shed the pounds i hate it-thats my problem -most exercise i find boring...but i still need motivation to get me to do it everyday-in the past i`ve gotten into the habit by thinking i`ll skip today and do double tomorrow (but i never do!) i`m just lazy basically but i can always think of more interesting things to do than exercise-i could plan a new hat!
thanks again everyone-i`ll keep you posted...
Lushem- a diet buddy would be great!
and Ruby-i`m not that skinny hun, promise its just knickers that hold it in....

I would cry if I had to do that even though I am overweight. I think I'm just gonna have to get used to the fact that I'm gonna have a gut. haha. I like food and beer WAY too much. But I still run 3 times a week and drink a hell of a lot of water. No tea or soda or anything. I'll be adding some workout stuff to my weekly routine soon.
I'd rather be hefty and in shape than thin and unhappy.

Hey Dorothy, from the sounds of it we're about the same size wise - i lost a stone a couple of years back but i struggle to lose weight because i have PCOS so i've always been larger than what i actually put into my body should allow, which is seriously annoying! I've reached a standstill with losing weight, basically because i keep eating cake and dont do much exercise lol im not in denial!
Im starting belly dancing classes on tuesday and going jive dancing with some friends and trying not to think of it as exercise, just as something i've fancied having a go at for ages that'll be fun! I know how it is though, its really hard to start doing things on your own, i wouldnt dare go belly dancing if Laura wasnt coming with me! If you can find some moral support alls the better! Strength in numbers. If youre in the Nottingham area you should come with us!
Good luck with everything!

Hi Dorothy
I know exactly how you are feelin' - I too need to lose some weight - and starting to get interested in burlesque has prompted me to do it, so I have joined Slimming World - I have used Weightwatchers before - and that works too, but this time I fancied a change.
I went along this evening (most unwillingly) - and really didn't think I'd like it - but everyone was so friendly, and the group support really seems to make a difference, I was the only newbie - and everyone else had lost stones in weight - not just a few pounds - it did make me feel a little better, and so hopefully when I go next week - I might have lost a pound or two - every little helps!
Good luck with your weight loss project too!
