Costume cleaning advice please ladies (or gents )

My new costume is a rather sparkley and delicate mess, now in my new act ill be using theatre make up and fake blood....whats the best way to clean it off my costume? Too scared to practice the routine as worried about ruining it!

Well for my really delicate ones I just use with very mild hand wash in low temperature water in the sink and only the bits that need washing.  Then ever so often wash the whole lot.  Does that sound totally ming?

Haha no im the same honey! Its difficult to wash things when youve got beads etc on them, I wouldnt dare put any of mine in the washing machine Shocked   I use delicate soap but I also double layer my pants etc....eeew where are we going here?! I do wash my pants just for the record!
I was wondering if fake blood is one of those things thats impossible to get out of clothes.

I never thought id be posting on a internet forum for advice on how to get blood out of clothes. Confused

I think it might be if it dries maybe need to wash it out as soon as you get off stage.  Not used it much so not much help.

fake blood came out of my sons halloween coat really well but it was machine washed.

what about putting it in the bath, and hand washing it, then get one of the  flat dryers to lay across it

Oooh good point Lushem.
Please do not attempt to smother me in washing powder and hot studs when I come off stage next!

i never say no to a hot stud, specially when husband is out!!!!!

Can you dry clean somethng with hot fix rhinestones on it?

I'm a bit dim so I don't know what they do, I suppose if it gets hot they'll all start falling off  Confused

Where is Anna Fur Laxis when we need her!

My housewifey-senses are tingling!

Odd as it may sound, I do occasionally have to deal with blood stains on Dr Fur Laxis' clothes, but it's always items that can be put in the washing machine.

Has the costume been made yet?  You mentioned that it's delicate - that does sound a bit tricky. Even if the costume is machine washable, it could be awkward if you have the act booked for 2 or 3 nights in a row.  Could you have a backup of the costume parts that are likely to get messy - one to wash and one to wear, as it were? If it isn't made yet, could you consider using a wipe-clean material such as latex or pvc backed fabric? Alternatively, do you really need to get mess on the costume? is there  a way you could keep the messy stuff off the outfit, or maybe use red glitter instead of blood?

Anna! Where would we be without you! I am going to buy a back up pants and also im going to try and smear the blood up and across if I can! I shall have the blood hidden somewhere so that should help control where it goes. Hmmm.
