Complete vintage/burlesque revamphey just embarking on a total makeover and re evaluation of everything in the new year i've dabbled with the vintage.burlesque look before and never thought i would pull it off but this year i've decided to say balls to it and try all of it and change completely any hints or tips?
I need a good red lipstick! i had one from Mac called ladybird which was pretty good...
i have a corset on order to train my waist,
my hair is going dark brown almost black. I always wear stockings anyway.
Any other idea's?
Thanku all thoughts will be greatly appreciated

red manicure looks gorgeous with a red lippie! try leaving your 'moons' clear though - think there's a discussion on it somewhere on here if you need a bit more information.
i think the best thing to do when going for a new look is to go for the trends that you admire the most and adapt them to suit your own style.
hope you have lots of fun with it! x

I'm not much of an expert with vintage styles but I could give one tip. Recognise the dominant colours in your wardrobe and if you find that you wear the same colours a lot. Try go for different colours next time you go shopping. I wear a lot of black and purple (it's the colour of choice from my unconsciousness) and so when I do go shopping, I try to find things I like in different colours such as green or pink!
A quote which keeps me going everyday is
'Style can only be created at a risk, it is a form of courage, it is an exposed and often indefensible position' Edwin Denby.
I have that quote in front of my mirror which gives me that boost whenever i want to try something.
But good luck and enjoy!!!

Welcome to the forum Miss Nouveau, so glad to hear we have another victim to vintage. I find lots of clothes in the most unusual of places, I found a lovely cloche hat in Tesco of all place for £3 in the sale, so I naturally purchased two. You have to be a real snoop but you can find some gems, I also a big fan of ebay.
Hair and makeup goes a long way to finishing off the look even just a slick a red lippy goes a long way. The link to the half moon manicure is here http://burlesquewomensinstitute.myfreeforum.org/about1130.html
I've also just purchased a sewing machine and a heap of dress patterns so that always an option too.

i forgot to mention that there is a webite where you can download free patterns and it's amazing since it gives you lots of tips and teaches you how to make stuff. (I learnt to make my faux fur muff from it) Check it out:

Ah Burda! Reminds me of flipping through my mother's stacks of dress patterns when I was a little girl and deciding which were the prettiest x

You just HAD to bring that up didn't you Ruby??
You sure do know my weak spots
You guys are lucky - my Nan was big into the 60s style - which I hate, but she never kept anything and my mum is too young and still loves the 70s style she grew up with now - but again she didn't keep anything either.
*whispers very quietly* I have a confession........ I have had a bit of a spending spree on ebay this week
and if anyone is remotley interested in hats I would be more than happy to show pictures (if they also tell me how to put them on here! I haven't worked it out yet )[/img]

if you upload them onto facebook first i find that to be the easiest. when you open a picture on there (or anywhere on t'internet) you can right click and go to 'properties' - this will give you the address of the picture - http://blahblahblah.jpg - when you post them just click 'img', paste the address of the picture then click '*img' again.
so no excuses! pictures please! x x

Thank you Ta-ra! That makes a lot of sense - let me have a go and I'll start a new thread in the Hat Box. Be warned - I do LOVE my hats!!
