Cleanser?

Ok Ruby and all you other beauty experts, I use a soap cleanser type thing from lush, (coalface) then I tone and moisturise, do I need to use another cleanser after the soapy stuff or is that enough?
I have very oily skin so I don't want to use a product just for the sake of it in case it does more harm than good.

Coalface is a fairly strong cleanser - anything with soap in is ^_^ I used that stuff when i was working at Lush - smells lovely!!!

If you like Lush stuff and want a proper make up remover to use before your Coalface try Ultra Bland. Smells yummy and budges EVERYTHING. I only use it for my eye make up, I just use babywipes on the rest of my face, then I use my Estee Lauder stuff.

I couldnt get on with that ultrabland cleanser, I always felt it was never quite removed once I'd cleansed and toned, I am a huge fan of Liz Earles cleanse and polish though

I'm not familiar with this cleanser, but the problem with most soap based cleansers is that they often contain sodium lauryl sulphate which is not good for you generally, google it! Also soap drastically alters/breaks down the ph level of the skin breaking down the acid mantle which is an acid barrier which protects the skin from bacterial infection.

Also, an excellent restorative of the skins’ acid mantle is diluted cider vinegar as it’s balances the skins ph level, also excellent as a scalp tonic if you have itchy or flaky skin or throw a cupful in the bath for dry itchy skin.

For some of the kindest cleansers have a look at Dr Hauschka, Dermalogica or Neals Yard products.

The very best cleanser for greasy skin should be clay based as it's highly absorbent without striping the skin, as most greasy skin cleansers are designed to strip away the excess sebum thus creating a miserable cycle in stimulating your skin to produce more.

It's far better to regulate the sebum with a macadamia or rosehip based moisturiser as these oils help to close pores and macadamia has a high palmitoleic acid content, a substance also found in human sebum and therefore easily absorbed into the skin and therefore balances your own natural sebum production.

And here endeth the sermon!

No no, don't end there, you are an authority, I need more. Perhaps this should be in Auntie Bettie's thread. Ruby, hubby suffers from patches of psoriasis in his scalp, we know that it's a form of eczema, and the GP prescribes coal tar based shampoos. They do very little and leave the scalp looking severely inflamed. Two things that do help are: Sunshine, as in Florida or Mediterranean, and olive oil bp. The latter is good for a temporary measure, he soaks his scalp with it, leaving it on for some good few hours, and then he places a hot towel (soaked in very hot water) over his hair. This draws the scaly psoriasis and leaves him free for a while. He usually does this when we are going somewhere that requires a formal dress code. Psoriasis and black just do not go together.
I found a useful booklet in Lloyds Chemist that explains psoriasis. Apparently it is psychosomatic, and can go just as quickly as it appears, which it does.Doing the olive oil treatment regularly is not practical, what shampoos have you come across that, whilst not eradicating the problem, do help in preventing, antagonizing it?
