Advice on making ostrich feather headdressHello!Im making a foray into headdress making for my charity night, basically what i want is two vegas style ostrich feather headdresses for my two showgirls who are going to present prizes and mingle with the public all night. I have a couple of questions - number 1, where the best place to get bargain ostrich feathers? secondly, whats the best way to construct the headdress, im thinking maybe on a headband? (i want the girls hair to be visible, ones blond ones brunette, theyre both stupidly tall and leggy, its gonna be cute!) but any advice would be much appreciated. I want the feathers to all be sticking straight up in like a fan shape on the top of their heads and ill probably add some adhesive crystals. yeah ideas and help much appreciated, im a total noob when it comes to anything craft related! x |

Oh Ruby they are wicked, I love my headdresses. If you are not so hot on your making maybe go to a fancy dress shop you can pick up ones pretty cheep theses days. A hair band is to narrow you need to make a sort of cap to go over the hair band to attach the feathers to. Sorry this is really hard to explain. If you want advice pm me your number and I try and tell you over the phone.

I managed to make like a skullcap type hat which attaches to your hair with a with a comb a while back, maybe something like that might work as a base?

A skull cap base would work really well. As a thought it could also be covered in fabric matching the colour of the feathers?? |
