I completely praise you and millie for being able to go vegan.
I tried in january and lasted all of a month.
On the fan debate i wouldn't buy new fans, but if i saw some second hand then for some reason i'd feel less guilty about it.
Though i wouldn't buy leather second hand leather just creeps me out.
I will cook meat for other people and my veggie vice is snails.
They eat lettuce so im going to eat them to protect my food.x

Lol! I like the logic about the snails Heather!
I am veggie and also tried going vegan last year but I found it so hard. I buy soya milk and yogs rather than dairy, but I just can't give up chocolate or honey and I really like cheese too!
I also found that there were so many things that contain animal products that you do not think about, for example, wines, soaps and bread.
I really admire anyone who can follow this strict lifestyle... I lasted about a month also Heather! |

It is really tough I have been on some weird diets for my health and being vegan was the hardest. My nurse told me off that as a woman we need dairy and I was doing my self harm in the long run by not eating it. So I thought I better, got enough falling apart as it is.
No way snails yuk. I have been a veggie for years and don't think about meat at all the thought of touching it or cooking it now just could not do it.

Yeah I basically had the same reaction from my bf when I tried the vegan thing...he told me off too! Lol!
I have never liked meat so it was not a big deal for me to stop eating it... I've been an "official veggie" for about 4 years now but I don't actually know when I really stopped eating it... it is something that I def don't miss and I do feel healthier for not eating it (although my bf would disagree as he comes from a farming family so we clash with this one Lol!) |

I've been a veggie for 22 years although I do eat fish, but then I am prepared to (and have) kill what I eat. Sadly without meat eaters many breeds of animals would cease to exist, the biggest problem I have is the way animals are treated during the mass farming and slaughter process and how mass farming is also destroying our eco system. For me it's all about the dignity of the animal.

Hi honey
I am with you i lived on a farm for years helped calves and sheep be born, collected eggs the lot proper country girl I am. Are animals were well looked after and feed, even lost my hot water bottle to lambs if there mum's would not look after them. My uncle was a butcher so they were killed humanly and this might be hard for some of you to hear but the meet tasted better. I stopped eating meat when I came to England as it just tasted horrible now I could not go back unless I was stuck on an desert island and it was me or the pig.

| I can't believe how many veggies I have come across on the Burly scene! I am from a family of Irish farmers so I think I'd be disowned if I went veggie! We still have cows and everything over there and a local slaughter house who are very good and as Diva says it makes all the difference. (Hope I'm not upsetting anyone!) xxxxxx |

i dont think you wuold upset people....i use to be really strict and not even consider going out with some one who ate meat....but now i am far more tolerant....live and let live....and just let people know what goes on as a lot of ignorance out there...
I just dont like the mass produced idea its extremely cruel...not healthy etc...but i have no objections to people eating there own...a farm near my work sells meat that they kill themselves to local people....they have to do it on the quiet as its not allowed as usual government has to stick its nose in to what other people can and cant do with their own lives..... Is still eat fish occasionally and travel abroad i find it quite difficult to find completely veggie stuff so have to be easy going...i just still feel really guilty about even eating fish...anyway enough waffling...xxxxx _________________ "She Has Bite Marks On Her Tongue From All The Things She Never Said........" |

I agree with your sentiment entirely Ruby. If you want to see how it's possible to be a carnivore and give respect and dignity to the animals that you are going to eat, watch the highly enjoyable, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall in the River Cottage series on Channel 4. |
