I'm going to apologies in advance for this - but having grown up around bikers all my life and having most of my immediate family ride I feel very strongly about safety on bikes.  I should maybe also let on that I help out in my friends shop - Girlsbike2  http://www.girlsbike2.com/[url
which sells female motorbike clothing - so I am actually trained in how to fit helmets etc.

So, here goes.

Open faced retro helmets are fine as long as they have the CE approved stickers on them.    You then do have to deal with the whole weather in your face/flies etc - not a very glamours look   Sad
As with any motorbike helmet, they need replacing after 5 years - so DO NOT wear a real vinatge helmet when on the bike.   There is no way of what has happend to it.

I would reccommend getting the best kit that you can afford - but please spend the most on your helemt - you can replace jackets and trousers, or god fobid, survive without arms or legs - but bash your head in any way and that's it.

I prefer the retro look, so I have gone for a plain sliver helmet - but once I pass my test and finally get my triumph, I am going to get a pin up girl designed on to it. Another option for the retro look is a matt black helmet.

There are many styles and brands out there, so there will be something you like and feel comfortable in, so take your time in making a decision.  just please make sure it has all the correct safety stickers on.

Sorry - finished now.  Embarassed

I'm into retro/vintage style as much as the next guy, but you'll never see me in anything but a full face Shoei helmet. They're not the prettiest but I've seen what happens when you hit face first wearing an open-face helmet. I'd like to keep my face intact if I'm lucky enough to live through a bike crash.

you could always have something like this over the top...

i have no idea if they would actually fit ....but i`m deeply sad and love such novelty items.....(in case you are interested they are called Crazeeheads....)
incidentally a psychaistrist once recommended motorbikes to me....he said they were faster than bicycles and cheaper than cars.....it was only real good advice he ever had.....

Honest the Davida stuff is really well tested and just as good as modern helmets they have to be to be allowed to sell them.

I do like some of those Davida helmets. The Lunar is the only one I'd wear though. I just have to have my face covered. I don't want a hamburger chin. Sad
