I've been using the henna from lush on my hair, and I love it, but it's so messy and we don't have a shower so I can never get it all out of my hair and it takes my boyfriend and I HOURS to put it in/wash it off.

I know I can't use the usual types of hairdye on my hair anymore, as henna coats the hair and the dyes can't penetrate it, and I don't like using chemicals on my hair anyway so that's not a problem, but I was wondering if something along the lines of Naturtint (I think it's called that, BB uses it I think?) would have any effect?

I used naturtint and i loved it but really what i loved was the conditioner it comes with ,the product itself dried out my hair really badly,and even though it has less chemicals it still has some so best to do a test first.

The naturtint semi perm,i havent tried yet ,i would like to give tht a go before i swear off the product,but really you cant beat once a month to the hairdresser lol.

There are many different types of henna available on the market. it's all natural, and come in different shades (blacks, browns, reds, and blonds).

my sister used henna (blond) on my hair last winter when it looked muddy at the roots (when they were in dread locks; it's no longer locked ). it looked really lovely (i liked it anyway) and it lasted a long time. she used two shades of blond henna (there were 5 shades available).

we found it at my health food store, but you can also find it at indian markets, particularly if you're looking for blacks and reds.

I use Herbatint and have used Naturtint. You would have to look at the instructions as to whether it covers henna (I don't have any at the moment so can't look). I like both products, no chemicals and not tested on animals.

I use the Lush hennas a lot (I would, I work there) and they really are a mess. I love them but without a showerhead, they're a bit crazy.

If you're desperate you can, I believe, use hair dye over henna as Lush don't use metallic henna so there won't be a reaction - you just can't do it if the henna's fresh (girl in our shop who's just dyed over henna says to wait a month at least). If you want to use other hennas though make sure they use the 'black henna' that's actually natural indigo henna as there's a particularly nasty synthetic alternative that can be quite harmful.
