I need advice girls.

I want to cover a mini top hat in rhinestones but I don't want to get the wrong fabric and wreck it.

Can you glue onto felt hats without damaging them?? Or would I be better off getting Sinamay?

Help!

You shouldn't have a problem gluing on to either felt or sinamay.  Just be careful of your fingers if you are using a hot glue gun.   Confused

This is how I do things - mainly on sinamay at the moment.  The only thing I would say, that due to the nature of sinamy the glue soaks through the gaps in the weave and if you are not covering the whole area you have to be careful of seepage.  Of course with glue guns you can pick it off any excess once it has cooled.

I know some of the other girls use the 'kandi kane' to put rhinestones on, but as I haven't I can't give you any advice on this.

Rhinestones seem to be fine on felt.  I used my kandi kane to put some rhinestuds onto a felt hat and they look great.  The one thing that confused me was that the heat from the gun seemed to melt the fabric a little, so that the studs actually sunk into the fabric rather than sitting on the top.  But I was using proper thick felt like you used in school textiles, rather than the finer stuff you tend to get on hats, and anyway it doesn't detract from the look.  So I think you'll be fine to use felt.

It's a way of fixing rhinestones and gems to absolutley anything.  Where as with a glue gun that you have to put the glue on the back of the sequin etc the kandi kane works from the front.  The end fits on to the gem stones which already have a coating of glue on the back which heats up.
