I know it is hard without clapping eyes on me but if anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear.
I am pale with blue eyes, natural dark brown hair and rosy cheeks with a tendancy to go red when exposed to the elements. I do use some of the old green stuff however to calm it down somewhat. I am looking for a red that has blue undertones as apparently they suit me more. So any well great shades or brands I should look out for?

Oh and red lipstick tends to bleed no matter how much I blot etc. Any tips or product recommendations for lip liner?

I really need to try to get it online as I can't be doing with dashing into Liverpool in this run up to Christmas.

Thanks in advance.
x

Hi honey
there is this stuff called top coat that you can get from any Boots.  You paint it over your lipstick and it stings a bit but it sort of seals it to your lips. It keeps mine on for ages.  Go into Mac and have a chat with them they will find you the perfect red they can also give you a good foundation which will stop you looking red, honest as I have the same problem and you would never no.

Thanks for your reply.
I had forgotten all about that top coat stuff. I have a tiny Boots at the end of my street, I shall nip in and grab some.

Boots No 7 do a great red lipliner which I use as a base before the lipstick and lipcote - stays on for ages...unless I've had a glass too many!

One word for you....MAC

and you can buy online.

I would recommend russian red or ruby woo, but there are a whole pile to choose from, and they last ages.

apply and blot, apply and blot!

I have come away from town today with lots of lovely make up!
Got Russian Red and lady bug from mac, a cheap lippy from bourjois, a fab lip brush, lip cote, a clear lip liner, nude lip liner and red lip liner. Plus lots of cheapie Barry M sparkley bits in a shop in town that had 70% off (woohoo!) and I got lots of freebie eyeliners so that I can try and find a liquid eyeliner that doesn't make me look like a 10 year old in her mother's make up bag.

Thank goodness my birthday is coming up and I had vouchers to spend.

YAY!!! Sounds like a fantastic haul Thrifty - good luck finding the perfect combo of red and sparkle!

I treated myself to a Ruby Woo this evening - a perfect christmassy shade Smile

I wear red lipstick every day and never have a bleed problem and I'm an old lady of 204!

My top tips are to moisturise your lips, then apply foundation and set it with powder.  Use a lip pencil to draw around your lips, now this is important, fill in your lips without going over the pencil, the pencil line should act as a barrier between your lipstick and the skin beyond your lips.  If you paint over your lips pencil you are defeating the point of using it.

Hope this helps.

I've found out that this is how you avoid getting lippy on your teeth

-If you have a tendency to get lipstick on your front teeth, just slide a tiny bit of Vaseline over them.
- Apply lip color as usual.
- For extra assurance, stick your index finger about halfway in your mouth, pucker up your lips in an exaggerated kissy-face and withdraw your finger. Any lip color that was applied too far inward will come off on your finger.

(I'd do it without the vaseline on teeth though!)
